What is DHI hair transplantation?
DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) is an technique used to place hair follicles with an implanter pen. We transfer the grafts we loaded onto the fine-tipped pen, one by one, to the hairline and sparse areas we planned in advance.
Root removal and root placement are two different stages in DHI application. We usually remove the roots from the nape and side areas of the head using the FUE method. Then, we transplant by taking into account the direction of hair growth, the gaps between the existing strands and the distribution we aim for.
What is important here is not just the name of the implanter pen; we protect the donor area, plan the correct hair line and place the grafts carefully. DHI does not produce new hair follicles; it allows existing roots to be moved to needed areas.

Hair transplantation is not just about filling empty spaces. We plan together which area we will take roots from, where we will place these roots, and how they will harmonize with your existing hair.
We protect your donor area
We examine the nape and side areas where we will take the hair follicles. When calculating the grafts needed for the hair transplant area, we make sure that the hair in these areas does not thin out more than necessary.
We plan your hairline
We evaluate together your facial features, your current hairline, and any shedding that may continue in the future. We show you the areas where we will transplant and the distribution of the grafts before the procedure.
We Explain the DHI Implanter Pen
We explain clearly how we place the hair follicles into the pen, how we take the direction of the hair into consideration during application, and what to expect when shaving.

How Are Hair Follicles Placed with a DHI Implanter Pen?
A graft is a hair follicle unit with a small amount of surrounding tissue. A graft may contain more than one hair strand. After extraction, we prepare the grafts and carefully load them into the implanter pen.
While the pen transfers the graft to the point we choose, it allows us to apply the direction and placement angle of the hair in accordance with our plan. Depending on the type of pen, a micro entry can be created during placement or pre-prepared openings can be used.
The implantation pen alone does not mean that more hair will grow. The condition of the donor area, preparation of the roots, hairline and post-procedure care are also important parts of the result.

Is shaving required for DHI hair transplantation?
Using the DHI implanter pen does not mean that we can leave all of your hair long. Shortening may be required in the nape area where we will harvest the hair follicles. Preparation of the area to be transplanted depends on your hair density and the plan to be implemented.
We show you which areas we need to shorten during the initial consultation. If you're looking for a treatment that focuses on maintaining hair length Long DHI You can also examine the scope of our service. Long DHI's own treatment package and service details are available on our separate page.
Get Information About Long DHI Hair Transplantation ↗What is the difference between DHI and Sapphire FUE?
In both applications, we remove the hair follicles one by one, mostly with the FUE method. The difference emerges in the tools used to place the roots in the recipient area.
In DHI application We place the grafts with an implanter pen. In Sapphire FUE application We prepare small channels with sapphire tipped tools and then transfer the grafts into these channels. We do not choose the application just by looking at the method name; we examine your hair loss, donor area and the area to be transplanted.
We are not saying that DHI or Sapphire FUE is more successful for everyone. Hairline planning, preservation of grafts and quality of medical practice are important in both approaches.

What awaits you after DHI hair transplantation?
In the first days, tenderness, redness, slight swelling and crusting may be observed in the transplantation area. We recommend that you protect the transplantation area from impacts and do not remove the shells by force. We share special medical instructions for you after the procedure about the first washing and care products.
Some of the transplanted hair strands may fall out in the first weeks. It takes months for new hair to grow; we do not consider the outlook in the first weeks as the final result. During the check-ups, we monitor the hair growth and the condition of the area where we take root.
Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure. It is important that you learn about risks such as infection, bleeding, scarring and anesthesia-related reactions before the procedure. If you have worsening pain, fever or an unexpected complaint, contact the healthcare team without delay.

We answer the most frequently asked questions about the implantation pen, the need for shaving, and post-operative surgery.
How is DHI hair transplantation performed?
In DHI application, we usually remove hair follicles one by one from the nape area. We place the roots in the implanter pen and transfer them to the hairline and sparse areas we planned beforehand. In the process, the direction of the hair, the donor area and the width of the transplantation area are important.
Are DHI hair transplantation and FUE the same thing?
Not exactly. FUE describes the removal of hair follicles one by one. DHI is the name of the approach to placing roots with an implanter pen. In the same operation, we can remove the root with FUE and place it with the DHI pen.
Do I need to have my hair cut for DHI hair transplantation?
Using the DHI implant pen does not necessarily mean that the procedure will be shave-free. Although long hair can be preserved in the transplantation area, shortening may be required in the nape area where the roots will be taken. We explain which areas will be prepared at the initial consultation.
What is the difference between DHI and Sapphire FUE?
The two practices are often distinguished by the tools used during the placement of the roots. We use the implanter pen in the application offered under the name DHI. In the sapphire FUE application, first small channels are opened with a sapphire tip, and then the grafts are placed in these channels. Neither is automatically better for everyone.
When does hair grow after DHI hair transplantation?
Some of the transplanted hair strands may fall out in the first weeks. It usually takes a few months for new hair to start appearing; the appearance evolves over time. The speed of hair growth and the density achieved vary from person to person.
What is the difference between DHI and Long DHI?
DHI describes the root placement approach with a transplanter. Long DHI, on the other hand, refers to an application scheme that focuses on maintaining the length of existing hair. We explain the details of our Long DHI package on our separate service page.
