About unshaved hair transplantation

What is unshaven hair transplantation?

Unshaven hair transplantation aims to place grafts without shaving all of the existing hair. We assess the donor and recipient areas separately. Hair may remain long in one area while limited trimming is needed in the other.

We take grafts from the donor area to recreate the hairline or place hair follicles in sparse areas. After examining the density of your existing hair, the length of your hair strands and the amount of grafts needed, we discuss which areas we will prepare for the operation.

When researching unshaven hair transplantation in Istanbul, we do not want you to look only at the name of the method. We, "Which part of me will be shortened, how visible will it be from the outside, and what will I do with the first wash?" We answer your questions one by one during the initial consultation.

Shaving options

Difference between completely unshaven and partial shave

The two expressions are often confused. We compare the options available to you by clearly explaining in which areas the hair stays long.

01

The Fully Unshaven Approach

We aim to work without shaving the donor and transplantation areas extensively. In some techniques, it may be necessary to shorten the selected hair strands one by one. "Not a single hair is touched" We do not make any general promises.

02

Partially shaved hair transplantation

In order to receive the grafts, we can shorten one or several small areas in the nape area. The surrounding long hair can partially cover these areas. We show the cutting limit in advance, taking into account your hair length.

03

More Extensive Trimming

In cases where the need for grafts is high or the working area is large, more shortening may be required. If there is such a plan, we explain the reason and discuss together which areas will be prepared.

Planning at the initial consultation

How do we examine suitability for unshaved hair transplantation?

At the first meeting, we examine the area of your hair loss, the root density in the nape and side areas, and the current length of your hair. If you have had a hair transplant before, we are talking about this too. The cause of hair loss and your health history are important in determining suitability for hair transplantation.

We explain how much working space we will need for the procedure and to which areas the grafts will be distributed. We also explain that if you wear your hair short, the partial shave at the nape of your neck may not be hidden by long hair.

We do not want you to cut your hair yourself before the operation. We inform you along with your preparation plan which section needs to be shortened.

Process stages

How do we plan unshaven hair transplantation?

It listens to your expectation of maintaining your hair length; we explain the graft harvesting, placement and aftercare stages to you separately.

01

We listen to your hair and your expectations

We are talking about which hair you want to leave long. We review your health information, such as the density of your donor area, sparse areas, and any medications you use.

02

We plan the cut boundaries and your hairline

We separate the nape and the transplantation area and examine them. If deemed appropriate, we show the partial shave area and explain the distribution of the grafts to be transplanted and the direction of hair growth.

03

We explain the steps of graft removal and placement.

We explain the stages of taking roots from the donor area and placing them in the transplantation area, using the technique we have planned. We do not confuse the terms DHI pen or FUE with the decision to leave the hair long.

04

We guide you through the first wash and daily care.

We share with you how to separate existing long hair without rubbing on the transplantation area, the time of the first wash, and the instructions for the products you will use for care.

Difference of methods

Is unshaven hair transplantation the same as DHI?

No. Unshaven transplantation describes how we prepare the hair, and DHI describes how we place the grafts. In DHI hair transplantation, we place the grafts with a special implanter pen. In unshaven applications, our focus is on the extent to which the length of the hair can be preserved.

DHI Hair Transplantation The implanter pen and process stages are on our page; Long DHI Hair Transplantation On our page, we explain in detail the approach to working with long hair and our Long DHI-specific treatment package.

We discuss which placement technique we will work with and how we will plan the haircut as two independent issues in the initial consultation.

Return to daily life

The first days after hair transplantation without shaving

Having long hair does not eliminate the need for care during the recovery period. We are careful to protect the donor and transplantation areas separately.

01

We describe the first wash

We explain with post-operative instructions when to start washing and how to use the product. We recommend that you separate long hair without pulling it and do not rub the transplantation area.

02

We want you to protect the recipient area

We recommend that you do not tear off the shells and protect the recipient area from impact and friction. We consider the return to hats, sportswear, hair updos and styling products in your care plan.

03

We explain the development of new hair

Some of the transplanted hair strands may fall out in the first weeks; it takes months for new hair to grow. We explain that the long hair appearance on the first day does not show permanent results.

Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure. If you experience increased pain, fever, discharge, or significant deterioration after the procedure, contact your healthcare team immediately. The general information here does not replace your specific medical care instructions. Our Hair Transplant Patient Guide You can also check it out.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about unshaved hair transplantation

Shaving is one of our most frequently asked questions. Here we explain the differences regarding donor and recipient areas.

Is there no hair cut in unshaven hair transplantation?

It is not the same in every application. In some plans, we only shorten a small area in the nape area, in some suitable cases, we can largely preserve the length of the donor and transplantation areas. Even in completely unshaved applications, some individual hair strands may need to be shortened. We show you what we will do in which region in the initial consultation.

What is the difference between partial shave and completely unshaven hair transplantation?

In partial shaving, we shorten only a certain part of the nape or another donor area; the surrounding long hair can cover this area. In the completely no-shave approach, we aim to work without shaving the donor and transplantation areas extensively. We examine the feasibility of both options together with hair density and graft need.

Is unshaven hair transplantation done only with the DHI method?

No. Unshaving describes how the hair is prepared for the operation; DHI is a technique for placing roots with an implanter pen. We distinguish between FUE and graft extraction and different placement approaches. You can examine our DHI and Long DHI services in detail on the relevant pages.

Who is unshaven hair transplant suitable for?

This may be an issue for people who want to maintain their hair length; but it is not suitable for everyone. We examine the cause of your hair loss, the density of your donor area, the area to be transplanted and the required amount of graft. With this information, we discuss with you which haircut approach can be applied.

Can unshaven hair transplantation be performed in large openings?

More grafts and a larger working area may be required in larger areas. This can make completely shave-free application difficult. It considers your expectations and hair follicle needs together; if necessary, we also explain the partial shaving option.

If my hair remains long, will the operation not be obvious immediately?

Long hair can cover some treatment areas, but redness, swelling and crusting may occur in the first days. Not cutting your hair does not mean that scars will not be visible or that you will heal faster. We explain what you may encounter in the first days during the initial consultation.

How will I wash my hair after unshaved hair transplantation?

We explain the time and application method of the first wash according to the instructions of the medical team performing the operation. It is important to separate your existing long hair without pulling hard, not to rub the transplantation area or to tear off the scabs. We also share details about care on our Patient Guide page.

Are the services in the Long DHI package included in shave-free transplantation?

The nine-item treatment package we offer for Long DHI belongs to a separate service. We are not saying that the same content is automatically included in other methods. We explain the planned procedure for shave-free transplantation and the services that will be offered to you in the initial consultation.
