About Hair Transplantation

What is hair transplantation?

Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure in which a person's own hair follicles are transplanted to areas where hair loss occurs. We do not produce new hair follicles; we transplant existing follicles to areas where hair density decreases.

We usually take hair follicles from the nape and sides of the head. This is called the donor area. We place the harvested roots in the front area where the hairline recedes, in the crown area or in other areas where thinning occurs. When planning the area where we transplant, we also need to protect the hair in the donor area.

Not every hair loss requires hair transplantation. In the initial consultation, we examine the cause of the hair loss, how long it has been going on and the condition of the scalp. If the necessary medical evaluation reveals a scalp problem that needs to be treated first, we also explain this.

What do we pay attention to in hair transplantation?

When determining the scope of the operation, we do not only look at the opening to be planted. We evaluate together the current density of your hair, the roots that can be removed, and future hair loss.

We protect the donor area

We examine the hair density on the nape and side areas. When calculating how many roots we can get, we make sure that these areas do not appear sparse. Excessive root intake may cause permanent sparseness.

We plan your hairline

We consider your forehead line along with your facial features, age and the direction of your current hair growth. We take into account not only current hair loss, but also future hair loss.

We explain the number of grafts

A graft can contain one or more hair strands. That's why the number of grafts and the number of hair strands are not the same. We explain the plan by examining the width of the recipient area and donor capacity together.

Who is hair transplant suitable for?

Hair transplantation is not the right first step for anyone experiencing hair loss. First, we examine the type of loss, whether it continues or not, and the adequacy of the donor area from which the hair follicles will be taken.

We listen to your health history, medications you use, allergies and previous hair procedures you have had. If there is widespread thinning in the donor area, active scalp disease, or a different medical problem, appropriate physician evaluation may be needed before planning the operation.

During the meeting, we talk with you about which areas need transplantation, how much the hair will be shortened and the basic stages of the operation. We especially remind you not to stop taking your prescribed medications without a doctor's advice.
